Can you imagine the horror of getting a call from the CEO of a large company, inquiring about your speaking services, and after directing them to your website, discovering that your website is inactive? In many cases, that might be enough to blow the deal… it’s a fast paced world, and people just aren’t willing to waste much time anymore; there are too many other speakers out there waiting for the call!

It goes without saying, if you have any desire of earning more than the light bill each month as a professional speaker, having a rock solid website is an absolute must. It doesn’t have to have all of the expensive bells and whistles to be effective, but it does need to cover all of the basics, and most importantly, it has to always be up and running.

I recently had a “near miss” because when I was updating my website, there was a problem that prevented me from successfully closing out the program. Problem was, it didn’t indicate that an error had occurred. Fortunately, I didn’t lose the “gig” and was spared the grief of losing a chunk of change because of a simple computer error.

It doesn’t have to be something as complex in nature as a website malfunction though. Have you ever been on the phone, while in front of your computer, and someone says, “ go to such and such website as we’re talking, and give me your input” and then suddenly, your computer is running much slower than usual? Embarrassing isn’t it? Frustrating too!

To be competitive in today’s market place, it’s just not worth the risk of having something so simple cost you thousands of dollars, let alone the headache of having to deal with it.

That’s all behind me now (at least my computer worries) because I have taken a very simple step that will make sure those errors are caught, and corrected, just as soon as they occur. Most everyone has some type of anti-virus program….and they should. However, very few people realize the trouble that things like Windows start up errors, Internet startup errors, runtime errors, broken DLL’s, , OCX, and ActiveX Components, and corrupt files can cause….until it’s too late. Anti-virus programs do NOT address these problems; I didn’t know that, and it almost cost me big time.

Do yourself a favor today, invest in a good software program that will help you stay on top of your game, and keep you from pulling your hair out later, thinking, “Why didn’t I take care of that a long time ago?” For about the cost of a tank of gas, you can protect yourself all year long.
