It is all to easy to spend hours a day on low copywriting gigs instead on setting your own rates and making yourself an asset. Here are 5 ways to accelerate you copywriting business:
1. Create a portfolio. you must have a portfolio to show new prospective clients. Even if you do not have samples create them. Check out the out-sourcing sites and see what types of copy buyers are looking for. If you are ready when a buyer contacts you and you are able to show samples on the spot you will present yourself as a professional even if you are just starting out.
2. Develop a web site. Creating a small website makes it much easier for clients to find you. Even if it is only one page it will give you a home on the web. This will become vital as your marketing activities form and your business grows. You will be networking everyday and with a web site you will have a place to direct prospective clients. You will be surprised at how quickly your web site will get your business rolling.
3. Increase your personal productivity. As a copywriter you are being paid for your time. The more efficient you are with your time the more money you will make. Develop habits that will help you increase production in a smaller amount of time. For example, find the best time of the day for you to write uninterrupted. Whether it is 5 am or midnight finding peace and quiet at some point in your day is very important as a writer. Avoid the phone during the times that you have set aside to work as well as in person meetings. Both of these have a tendency to use more of your time than anticipated. E-mail will soon be your best friend.
4. Target high paying markets. High paying assignments are usually found in your fortune 500 corporations, large circulation magazines and some mid-size businesses. These people are use to paying for good competitive work so you won’t have to beg and plead with them. They know good quality when they see it. Calculate your earnings by the hour not by the project or per word.
5. Repeat Business is a must. Building a good reputation with your clients builds a great repeat business. You become familiar with the client and their business so you will learn what it is that they want. This will cut down on your production time with this knowledge. Give every writing job your very best effort. The more satisfied the customer is the greater the chances are at more work from this client.
