In one museum, a program to be held in conjunction with their animal friends exhibit is where six local artists will demonstrate their individual approaches to animal painting. When the artists are able to create an animal theme painting in the museum galleries they then have to tell the visitors about how the styles and techniques they used were able to help them capture the image and spirit of the animals they painted. When it comes to animals, people from different cultures and backgrounds find special meaning in them according to a museum's executive director.
Signified by doves is peace while a buffalo is often used as a spiritual symbol. Usually, a red tailed hawk can be a good omen while cherished friends are symbolized by dogs. According to this female artist she is an avid explorer of styles, techniques, and ideas. Developing her methods can be attributed to a long career of teaching, consulting, in workshop presentations, and publications. Listed in the west's who's who is she other than being a founding member of a local society of watercolorists.
It was another female artist who came from southern California and she studied art and watercolor before moving to her hometown in 1983. Together with landscapes and floral studies, she also works on themes like people and animal portraits. Considering her style, the director attributes this to her aggressive use of pigment and also her ability to push the watercolor medium into works of unusual size without sacrificing the brilliance of transparent watercolor.
Another artist did not only study at a famous college but also at the art center of college of design in Los Angeles. When he was in Chicago he was a graphic designer but he has exhibited nationally including the national watercolor exhibition in environment. As well as in local and regional venues, each of the artists will also be making presentations and publications in Springfield, Illinois.
The fourth artist graduated with high honors from New York's school of art, following a period of study at the university of California at Los Angeles. The best of show was what she won at Washington school of art's 12th annual competition. As mentioned by a reviewer, her work is able to give a precious glimpse of human drama for it is full of psychological poignancy as parts of a famous director's film.
Earning her degree in painting from Kansas university school of fine arts was the fifth artist. What she does is provide viewers with a feeling of the atmosphere and the subject's mood as she paints in her own interpretive style of realism. Apart from participating in the Kansas landscape which is a traveling exhibition shown at the Smithsonian institution in Washington, DC, she has also held a number of one person shows and has participated in juried exhibitions too.
It was the sixth artist who culminated her study of art and refinement of painting skills after studying Chinese brush painting with a noted Chinese painter for eight years. When it comes to this style of painting, lifted or erased during creation, she adapted it to the northern New Mexican environment. According to the director of the museum, they are honored to welcome these distinguished artists from the society of watercolorists to the museum and their commitment to artists and designers working showing up was also reiterated.
It is the current animal friends exhibition which has been specially selected for the enjoyment of the young and old. During 1992, the society of watercolorists was established and its mission is to encourage the local and national production and appreciation of professional quality watercolors.
