Content writing for website seems similar to writing for print but still there is lot of difference as the web users flip and scan through the pages trying to judge the relevancy of the page content as per their requirements and they will stick to some thing if they find it relevant, updated, outstanding and interesting. The foremost thing is to understand the needs and interest of the visitor you are targeting for your website and keep in mind the following points while writing the content for the website
1. Content: Depending upon the topic on which you have decided to build the website, content should be simple, informal, scan able, concise and easily understandable. If any technical term is being used then try to explain that beforehand. This is because user wants to scan through the pages and read the pages quickly, if the writing is simple and informal it will be easier to retain the interest of the user.
2. Developing Credibility: While going through the website user tries to judge the website quickly if the site is worth reading or leaving. Here comes the credibility of the site and the web publisher. If you are a new web publisher then providing the correct, updated and well written information can help you to develop the credibility in the herds of web publishers.
3. Heading Text and summary: Page heading and the summary will help the user to know the information he is going to read in the page is required by him or not. It helps him to save his time and develop the mind frame of what he expects to read in the page.
4. Simple Navigation: While reading a page there can be many sub links but they should not be too many that they take the user go so deep into another sub links and he gets confused and distracted where he has started and how to go back. So links especially Back and Home links should be properly placed on every page.
5. Appropriate use of images: Images if required, should be used appropriately and should complement the page theme and the page heading. Image size is also considering factor as it effects the download time of the page. Do not use heavy images on your web page otherwise it will take a lot of time to download the page at the visitor’s end.
6. Looks consistency: All the pages of the website should have the same feel i.e color, font, size etc. Content is important but how it looks while reading is also important. By saying this, I certainly do not mean that it should be overly decorated or too much flashy, but having a nice and consistent look of the website makes the user feel that he is on the same website and not have be redirected to some other website.
7. Page Length: The pages should be of proper length with properly created logical divisions and subdivisions based on the structure of your information.
8. Fragments: While checking the page length the information should be appropriately fragmented as there are users who may want to get the printed version of the page and so many fragmented information might leave them frustrated with so many pages to print on by one.
