Staff Selection Commission has gone through numerous reforms in last two years. For example last year for the first time the recruitment process of tax assistants was incorporated in the Combined Graduate Level Exam. Then there was introduction of Combined Higher Secondary Exam for the recruitment of Lower Division Clerks and Data Entry Operators. The educational qualification of LDC was elevated to Higher Secondary from senior secondary or 10th board. At the end of the year Multitasking Exam was introduced which can be called a appropriate replacement of Matric (secondary board) Level exam.

In the month of February there was mother of all reforms, introduction of constable recruitment process through SSC. In fact, the Physical test events and medical test are still in the hands of Central Police Organizations but written test and preparation of merit list is in the hands of SSC. This reform is expected to bring more transparency and honesty in the recruitment of constables in all the institutions of Central Police Organization.

Education Planing

Candidates often miss the exams of SSC as the notifications are not published in ordinary news papers and they are required to buy Employment News on time which are not available everywhere.

For them it would be better if they follow the exam schedule of SSC Recruitment 2011. They can visit the official website of SSC according to the schedule and download the official notifications and application forms.

It would be in candidates interest if he or she opts for online application instead of offline application as in the case of former immediate confirmation of the receipt of application is provided by the commission. On the other hand in case of offline application there is no guarantee of immediate acknowledgment, although confirmation may be given after 30 to 45 days through admit card.

Doubts about the Career Prospect

There were historical amendments made in the year 2010 and the improvement process is still continuing and more and more common annual recruitment of different central government departments of the Union of India are assigned to Staff Selection Commission. The incessant process of amendment often creates doubt in the mind of candidates specially about the delay in the final recruitment. However, this doubt is unfounded as the time lag between the preliminary exam and final appointment has gradually decreased since the year 2010.

There is another fear of getting grouped in Grade B / Grade C/ Grade D posts which are considered inferior to officer cadre posts. This fear is not unfounded but don’t forget that the eligibility parameters and required aptitudes for the posts offered by Staff Selection Commission of India are far less and more relaxed than that of Union Public Service Commission or State Service Commissions.
