One of the oldest major cities in the United States, Boston is home to both the first public school and first college (Harvard) in the country. It is a city with great historical and educational– as well as cultural– significance. All the various educational institutions make Boston a mecca of higher education, and the associated university hospitals make it a mecca of health care. Being home to so many institutions of higher learning means Boston is also home to many young people, a lot of whom are single and looking for companionship. If you are among this group, a good place to connect with potential companions is Craigslist.
It really seems that need is the greatest motivation of them all. It seems that a group of researchers, lead by Ermanno Pietrosemoli, based in Venezuela have developed on the existing WiFi standards and technologies in order to successfully transmit signal over a distance of 382Km . The catch is they used special quality components provided by Intel, especially of long-range WiFi connections.
Pietrosemoli is the president of the networking school of Latin America, and as such he conducted the research that climaxed with the connection between El Aguila and Platillon Mountain, both in Venezuela in the Andes mountains. This was achieved by focusing the signal from the emitter to the receiver instead of broadcasting signal in all directions as normal WiFi does. There are some disadvantages such as low transfer speed (the achieved something around 3MB/s ), and the fact that the emitter and receiver must be exactly aligned. Also if something like trees buildings or other objects come between they might interrupt the connection.
The free game Icy Tower was created and released by Johan Peitz in 2001. Little did he know that the game would over time grow to become a cult classic, enjoyed by millions worldwide. Johan's company Free Lunch Design had already released several games. The company's motto “Gameplay is everything” was clearly manifested in the easy to learn, but oh so hard to master, Icy Tower.
The game is a straight forward experience where the players' only goal is to jump as high as possible within a tower. Though, what first might seem easy becomes progressively harder. The player has to evolve as the game becomes more demanding with each new level.
This simple game mechanics, combined with the cute character Harold the Homeboy, proved to be a recipe for success. Consequently Icy Tower dwarfed the previous game releases from Free Lunch Design. During its first year online the download count rose to well over a million downloads.
BEIJING - China accused Google Inc. on Thursday of spreading pornography after Chinese users were unable to connect to the search giant's Web site, while Washington called on Beijing to scrap its order for personal computers to be equipped with Internet-filtering software. “We have found that the English version of google.com has spread lots of pornographic, lewd and vulgar content, which is in serious violation of Chinese laws and regulations,” said foreign ministry spokesman Qin Gang at a news briefing. He said authorities summoned Google representatives and told them to “remove the material immediately.”
Chinese Internet users were unable to connect to Google's main search site or its China-based service, google.cn, beginning Wednesday evening. Qin did not respond to questions about whether the government was responsible for the outage. But he said he hoped the problem can be “resolved immediately.”
