The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that demand for professionals in this field will grow by more than 36% over the next few years. Because of the rapid growth of this field, those interested in earning degrees in Allied Health have also changed. Not everyone is pursuing a career in an Allied Health field right out of high school; now students may also be mature, employed individuals who have complex family responsibilities. Or perhaps they live or work some distance from the colleges and universities where they’d like to study.

I was facing this dilemma while working to create a new web site. Seems like an easy task. You buy a domain name and off you go. But which domain name? I have bought so many I could open my own store! Well, I have learned from the marketing guru’s “Ask others”. So I did. Some marketing advisors said use a web site name that will attract women by the shock factor. Some said no, women need respect so stop calling them babes!

The first type is the one that is commonly known as Standard Mandarin or Chinese which is the official spoken language of the People’s Republic of China and Republic of China (Taiwan). The other type is Mandarin as a dialect which is spoken across northern and south west China.

Any reference to Mandarin usually means Standard Mandarin. Standard Mandarin also varies from Mainland China to the version spoken in Taiwan. They also take on different names to distinguish the different versions. While Standard Mandarin acquires the name “Putonghua” in Mainland China its Taiwanese version is known as “Guoyu”. The only common factor among both the versions is that the phonology is based on the Beijing dialect.

Debate rages about what are the differences between leaders and managers. There are many articles and books written on this topic and yet for anyone to progress in their career it will be essential for them to recognise the difference.

Management and leadership are a continuum along which we progress in our careers if we aspire to the top jobs. You could argue that good managers make good leaders. I would disagree. There are many examples of outstanding leaders who have qualities far in excess of those required to be a good and effective manager.
