As long as a student chooses an accredited school to get an online high school education, there will be no difference with regards to the credibility of the diploma compared to classroom-based schools. He will also get the same level of education that students attending traditional education institutions are able to receive. The main difference, however, is that a student who chooses to learn through distance education will be able to take advantage of the flexibility in terms of scheduling, as well as the ability to study at his own pace from anywhere he chooses.

Although many parents of high school students seem to be dubious about the educational system of online high schools, recent studies have actually shown that studying online can benefit students more than learning at traditional institutions. The California State University at Northridge has found that students enrolled in online learning programs tested 20% better than their counterparts who have studied in conventional classroom-based schools. It also noted that distant learners tend to be high achievers with more self-motivation and discipline.

A public elementary school needs multifarious approaches to attain its mission and vision. Usually, the school aimed to produce graduates who are globally competitive and skilled enough to land better jobs. To realize this, the school has to improve its instructional and institutional strategies.

The limited financial resources of the school could sometimes hinder the implementation of school projects and activities. Take the case of a school with a small enrollment. The few number of students means few parents and a meager slice of the school budget based on per pupil allocation. This means it has less income in terms of voluntary donations and less maintenance and other operating expenses (MOOE). The few students, however, still require quality instructional materials same as with other schools.

Online Education

To raise funds for TV sets, DVD players, laboratory apparatus and other learning support materials, the school then has to establish linkages with its stakeholders. Project proposals have to be submitted to local government offices and non-government organizations hoping that they could partake whatever funds they have.

A story is told about a very successful executive planning a business trip to Detroit. The plan was to have face to face meetings with an influential client to further the company’s goals. Tickets were purchased, car rented, hotel booked, meetings scheduled and times confirmed. On the morning of the meetings the executive took the pre-ordered map out of the glove department and began to map out his route (obviously pre-GPS times). Try as he might he could not find his destination, streets were wrong, addresses did not correspond and the executive was becoming anxious that not only was he lost but was probably going to be late. The executive pulled the car over and took a short assessment of the situation; the plan was sound, everything was well prepared right down to the map. The executive then looked more closely at the map and laughed out loud; the rental car company had left the wrong map in the glove department it was a street map of Denver not Detroit. There was no way he would get anywhere in Detroit using a map of Denver. The executive pulled into the next gas station, bought a Detroit map, and made his appointment a little frazzled and with just minutes to spare.

For today’s student, distance learning is a worthwhile and affordable way to work toward a GED, usually the most official way for an adult to demonstrate the skills of a high school graduate. But there are a growing number of companies and schools who aren’t really in the business of education. Instead, they’re in the education business — their main business is selling quick and easy programs or simple online tests, complete with worthless transcripts and fake diplomas.

There are exceptions. But as a rule most transcripts and diplomas ordered or obtained from online high schools are useless. Unfortunately, students and adult learners are often and easily misled by diploma factories or diploma mills. Many of these companies and ‘schools’ appear to be professional businesses or accredited educational institutions. So, when selecting online education, it’s smart to be cautious. Make sure the online learning solution is a real solution, and will help you achieve your goals.

When the summer begins to cool down and children and parents alike prepare for the start of the school year, there is one company that will undoubtedly find a place on every list of back to school supplies: Crayola Crayons.

Initially known as Binney & Smith, Crayola was founded in New York City in 1885. It was initially intended to be an industrial pigment supply company. The co-founders, cousins Edwin Binney and C. Harold Smith, had little interest in making educational school supplies, and instead created inexpensive black colorants used for making car tires black.

At the turn of the century, the company began producing slate school pencils and new, dustless chalk. The dustless chalk becomes so popular, in fact, that it received a gold medal at the St. Louis World Exposition.

Planning an outdoor educational field trip can be a painful and time consuming project for any teacher. There is the budget to consider, risk management to prepare and logistics to plan. All this background work must be done in order to gain the school board’s administration approval.

In Southern Ontario a different approach is being taken to gain business from surrounding schools. Outdoor education companies have taken advantage of the fact that their area of expertise is something a teacher often lacks or does not have the time to research. So they have created a program called “Teacher’s Aid” which custom designs field trips to meet the teacher’s needs… free of charge.

The process works by having the teacher submit the outdoor curriculum requirements; minimum expected students, the time frame, available working budget and required safety standards. These are the main ingredients needed by the “Teacher’s Aid” to design an educational outdoor field trip.
